Introduction to IPv6 (2 days)

IPv6 for networkers, architects and information security officers

IPv6, the Internet Protocol Version 6, will replace the older IPv4 in a short to medium term. With only around 4.5 billion addresses, IPv4 is no longer able to cope with the continuous growth of the Internet. In mobile and cable networks, end customers generally only receive IPv6 addresses; somewhere at the provider, the addresses are then translated to IPv4. Large cloud providers now spend a lot of money on additional IPv4 addresses and sometimes rent these out to their customers at a high price. At the same time, current Windows versions require IPv6 to be under support. Services such as DirectAccess were developed directly for IPv6. IPv6, enabled in conjunction with protocols such as Teredo creates new security risks if, for example, IPv4 firewall rules are circumvented.

Your Benefit

In this seminar, you will gain a great understanding of the functions of IPv6 and the opportunities and risks associated with its use. In the practical part, you will configure IPv6 on Windows and Linux, analyze data traffic with Wireshark and carry out basic troubleshooting.

Target

This course is aimed at

  • network administrators
  • system administrators
  • information security officers

in organizations that are either planning for IPv6 or are already in the implementation and need basic coompetence.
